We have a Champion 740A, here in N.Cameroon, it has been standing for like 5 years, three days I went to start as we want to move and either sell or utilize for the purpose it was bought…..roads. We have anti-poaching teams working with the game Department for fight off poachers from Somalia who come to take what few elephant are left in this region. It’s like a war at times, anyway the teams could use better roads to get around and to monitor movement.
The Cummings L10 made in August 1988 starts and ours like a dream, amazingly the water level in radiator still at the cap, full!
We checked all the oil levels and topped up where needed, but that bloody machine won’t move, I suspect electrical issues based on time standing, and humidity during the 3 months of the rainy season. However I did inspect the pick up sieve at the bottom of the reservoir, I did find some debris, that looked a lot like plate lining material……not a lot though, and I was hoping that there is enough to move the machine to a road about 19kms away over a few small but steepish inclines/ river gullies, where I can get it loaded on a loadbed and into a larger town where our office is about 6 hours away from camp.
Any ideas on making a short cut on which solenoids that we can maybe get it to move? We tried one, and the machine surged but that was it, the other attempt stalled the engine, even though the drive shaft was disconnected for obvious safety reasons.
